Food Hacks to Keep Your Groceries Fresher for Longer

I have several apples in my fruit bowl at home, and they’re starting to turn a tiny bit brown. I always get way ambitious when I’m buying fruit.

After looking at this infographic, I now realize I can put those apples in the fridge. I’m not sure how I feel about super-cold apples, but if it means freshness, I might give it a try.

I didn’t think those drawers in the fridge actually made a difference, but it seems like I’ve been wrong all along. Berries last 3 – 5 days in a refrigerator drawer.

When it comes to vegetables, there’s some prep you can do to help your salad ingredients last even longer. Put asparagus in water and lightly cover it with plastic. Celery will last an impressive two weeks if its wrapped in foil, and garlic does best in a dark pantry.

Don’t leave your cereal boxes open (I’m definitely guilty of this). Instead, transfer cereal to an airtight container after you open it.

This infographic also has tips for keeping food fresh. You can apparently check the freshness of an egg by placing it in water (bad eggs float). Who knew?
