Read This Before You Invest In An Engagement Ring

There’s nothing quite as romantic as a marriage proposal. Whether it’s a spontaneous declaration of love or an immaculately planned spectacle, getting engaged is something special.

Buy buying a ring can be quite the process. While some people recommend spending three to six months salary on a wedding ring, most agree that one month’s salary is an acceptable budget.

While non-traditional rings are gaining popularity, diamonds are still a girls best friend. 3 in 4 women would pick a diamond engagement ring over a gemstone ring.

As I said before, proposals vary depending on the couple. Interestingly enough, only 10% of people are into public proposals. Also surprising: a staggering 20% of men would propose with a ring from a previous engagement. I’m not huge on bad luck charms, but that does seem like a potentially bad idea.

When deciding whether to spend big on an engagement or honeymoon, both men and women agree that the engagement deserves more love. I can’t argue with that –– you do wear a ring for the rest of your life if all goes well.

Once you get the ring down, it’s time to plan the wedding. Here are some fascinating stats on the average wedding in the U.S.
