How long does it take to build a famous structure? Many of the world’s great buildings took more than a decade to complete, and some took even longer.

Here are some of the most famous structures in history and how long they took to build.

Some of history’s most famous structures took centuries to build. The Great Pyramid of Giza, for example, was built more than 4,000 years ago and took 20 years to complete. Other buildings were constructed over a longer period of time: the Taj Mahal took almost half a century to build (and another couple centuries before tourists started showing up). Meanwhile, some structures were completed in just a few years or even months: New York City’s Brooklyn Bridge was finished in 1883 after 14 years of construction; the Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889 after two years’ work; and Stonehenge took about three decades to build between 3000-2000 BCE—but probably not by humans alone!
